Bladder cancer: Photodynamic diagnosis can improve surgical outcome

A recently published study suggests that photodynamic diagnosis using Hexvix® markedly improves the completeness of initial resection of bladder cancer tumours. Six weeks after transurethral resection, residual tumour was found in 31% of the patients who underwent white-light cystoscopy alone, but only in 11 % patients of the blue-light cystoscopy group, indicating that Hexvix guided cystoscopy resulted in a more complete resection.
