Advantages of Photocure Technologyâ„¢
- Highly selective treatment that preserves healthy tissue
- Earlier and more accurate diagnosis
- Few side-effects
- Well documented
- Sets new standards for diagnosis and treatment of several conditions
1. An inactive substance (a precursor) is administered to the patient locally.
2. After uptake into the cells, the precursor transforms into a photoactive substance that can be activated by light. The nature of damaged cells causes the photoactive substance to accumulate in them to a much greater degree than in normal cells.
3. The affected area is then illuminated. The illumination either makes the damaged cells visible (diagnosis) or removes the damaged cells (therapy), depending on the light source. (See figure)

The technology is very selective, affecting only damaged cells and preserving healthy tissue. |
